Paloma Jet Plantenga: what are the life lessons of an egg? 

Yellow and white textiles become the golden thread of a practice about potential in objects; a collaboration between Paloma Jet Plantenga and the egg. The egg, seen as disposable or useless by most people, can be changed and diversified into endless forms. She researches this relationship by trying to become the egg. Her alter “eggo”, named Eggnostic Shellshock, is a soundcloud rapper with eggistential dread. This popstar egg is trying to answer life’s questions through songs and music videos about its predicaments as egg.   

Paloma works with “thing-expressionism”, which connects the act of conveying with material things. By collecting and surrounding herself with specific objects, she starts to question: What position or shift in perception finds the potential in these things? What capacity for meaning is in an egg, and ultimately in us? Creating a “bass-line" of a thing (like in music) is about finding new potentiality in these neglected things. The playful, rhythmic approach makes space for questioning and transforming our guilt in relation to dis-posing objects. 

The experimental and energetic works first make you laugh, dance and roll around like an egg, then makes you think. “Egg? Hu? Aha. egg!”
