Nora Todorovic
Nora Todorovic’s work is based around fictional characters that deal with the cycle of life, a life-death-life cycle. Through her characters, she seems to be interested in their spiritual nature. Nora’s practice is a narrative and almost mythological one. Her work recalls old tales and her characters, all having one outstanding quality, make us rethink our relation towards other beings and the world in general. Her characters follow:
Mud Woman is qualified as excellent and lives in the underworld. She is composted from her ancestry, fungi and microbiomes, viruses and bacteria, and simultaneously is the home for these organisms growing from her.
Birthing Bird Woman, who gives birth to a thousand roses, where in this process, she is embodying the quality of vulnerability and is in a state of surrendering to becoming and un-becoming, and dances on the fine lines of life and death.
Amara A, the priestess, is on a pilgrimage and interacts with the roses, where a narrative story plays out and where she embodies the quality of endurance and devotion.
All the characters are connected to one another in a visually sensitive and poetic, yet powerful way. By showing an insight into the lives and interactions of these characters, Nora shows the vulnerability and interconnectedness of our existence.
