“The lift in my flat broke down, which meant I couldn’t get into my house for two weeks and had to move out temporarily. That’s obviously annoying and a real bummer, but in hindsight, this situation turned out to be the starting point for my performance. I was thinking: ‘What if the lift to heaven were to break down and no one repaired it? How would I get there then? What if there was only a staircase available? That would be inconvenient.’”
“As a creator, I always look at events in my life as potential inspiration for a song or, in this case, an entire performance. It’s a way to deal with all the challenges life throws at you. Like with the lift, I thought: shit… but I’m going to make something out of this! Because I was able to find the answer to all those questions about the broken lift. I was able to incorporate this into my performance. Namely: if that lift doesn’t work, then I’ll stay in this life. Extra time to enjoy!”
The conservatory has become my living room over the years, and I’m going to miss it. At the same time, it doesn’t feel melancholic; I’m ready for new challenges.”
Studying at ArtEZ
“If I had known in advance what opportunities I would get, I would have been over the moon. Thanks to the people I’ve met at the ArtEZ Academy of Music in Enschede and everything I’ve learned over the past six years, I’ve grown enormously as a creator, musician, and person. I wouldn’t have wanted to miss it for the world. When I entered the academy, I had many dreams. Now that I’m leaving, I have even more dreams and more experience. The best part is that I’ve met so many wonderful people with whom I make music and will continue to make music. The conservatory in Enschede has become my living room over the years, and I’m going to miss it. At the same time, it doesn’t feel melancholic; I’m ready for new challenges.”
Future
“I’m in need of a year where not too much is planned. This autumn, a new EP will be released, and I mainly want to write a lot and put plans into action so that I can perform my show in various places. And after that? Who knows!”
