Typography
The two year Master of Typography gives talented designers who wish to start their own business the opportunity to further develop their own style. The programme takes a broad approach, and has a strong emphasis on artistic development and theoretical foundation, through concrete practical assignments.
Designers who have the capacity to operate autonomously and independently, and who have sufficient insight into their own ability, are more capable of responding to changes in the field, and can distinguish themselves better. ArtEZ admits a maximum of nine graphical designers each year on the basis of proven visual and conceptual qualities, motivation and a Bachelor’s degree in the field.
The ArtEZ Werkplaats Typografie (Master of Typography) receives positive reviews by field professionals and distinguishes itself as an international, English-speaking and smallscale study programme that functions partially as a design studio. The best way for students to demonstrate and develop their qualities is, after all, through actual projects, with real restrictions and deadlines.
Students are in direct contact with their clients and are expected to carry out their entire projects independently, from receiving the assignment to the moment of completion. In this informal but professional setting, they develop a strong awareness of their own creative capacities and their qualities and limitations as future freelance designers. Students are supervised by Karel Martens, Armand Mevis, Paul Elliman and Maxine Kopsa. Guest lecturers are regularly invited to give individual support and hold presentations. Students have 24-hour a day access to a professional studio.
