Crossmedia Design
In today’s world, the media bombards us with a barrage of images, through the internet, television, mobile phones and narrow casting. Users and consumers can now find and organise online information themselves. This creates new and more complex possibilities for designers. The distance between production and exposure is shrinking, as is the distance between image designer and audience. Real media specialists are in demand for their artistic intuition, technical inventiveness, contextual knowledge, critical image awareness and communication expertise.
As graphical designers, crossmedia designers independently conceptualise and develop visual strategies and creative concepts for clients. They are well aware of the interaction between the various media – from print to internet. Cultural image awareness and analytical thinking are indispensible for understanding and using this interaction between art and technology. Crossmedia designers know the production and communication processes and can use these in an inventive and tailored way.
Both regular and exchange students from across the world study Crossmedia Design at ArtEZ in Enschede. Content and technology are linked through an interdisciplinary approach. Projects carried out in one class are used as a basis for other classes. The teachers are well-versed in multiple fields and techniques, and can therefore familiarise students with all aspects of design. Reality Studios, a practiceoriented department, introduces Crossmedia Design students to their future careers through projects for actual clients.
