Preparatory Courses
One-Year preparatory course
You can attend the one-year, internal preparatory course at the ArtEZ School of Music in Arnhem, Enschede and Zwolle. This preparatory course provides everything you will need in terms of guidance, training and information for preparing for the entrance exam to the Bachelor’s course. You will be taught music theory and aural training, and will also attend instrumental or vocal classes. In addition, you will work on one or two concerts. Preparatory courses are available for Jazz & Pop, the Academy of Pop Music, MediaMusic, Music Theatre, Music Therapy, Classical Music, Brass Band Conducting and Music in Education. At the end of the preparatory course, you will take an entrance exam for the Bachelor’s course. This preparatory course is not a funded course, which means that you will not receive a student grant.
Preparatory course in collaboration with music schools and secondary schools
ArtEZ School of Music has set up an external preparatory course together with a number of music schools and secondary schools. Here, you will be taught theory and aural training by a teacher from either a secondary school or a music school. A private teacher or a music school teacher will be in charge of your individual instrumental or singing classes. ArtEZ School of Music will contribute to your supervision and will regularly organise work days. Twice a year, you will also attend a main subject class that will be taught by a teacher from a music college.
There are joint preparatory courses for Classical Music, Jazz & Pop and Music in Education, which are held in Apeldoorn, Arnhem, Deventer, Doetinchem, Ede, Enschede, Nijmegen, Zevenaar and Zwolle. Music Theatre is available in Arnhem.
ArtEZ Young Talent Class (Classical Music and Jazz & Pop)
We want extremely gifted young musicians aged 12 and above to be given the right supervision at an early point in time. That’s the reason why the ArtEZ Young Talent Class preparatory course was set up. It lasts for a number of years and we draw up a specific range of subjects for each pupil. Important parts comprise your individual class and your involvement in concerts. You will also participate in work days and instrument days.
The Young Talent Class is not officially funded. This means that you cannot receive a grant.
